Camino Planning Support

Planning a Camino can feel exciting, confusing and occasionally overwhelming.

You might be wondering which route to choose, how far to walk each day, whether you need to book accommodation, what to pack or whether you’re fit enough to begin.

I’ve walked more than 20 Caminos, guided groups, volunteered in albergues and pilgrim offices, and helped hundreds of pilgrims prepare for their journey. Not everyone needs the same level of support, so I’ve created three different ways I can help.

1. One-to-One Camino Support

If you’d like personal advice tailored to your plans, we can sit down together on Zoom and I’ll share the advice I offer my friends as we talk through your questions, concerns and ideas.

Perfect if you’d like reassurance, route advice, itinerary feedback, packing guidance or simply the chance to ask questions from someone who’s done this many times.

2. Camino Route Planning & Itinerary Review

Would you like an experienced pair of eyes to look over your plans or help you create a realistic itinerary?

I offer route planning and itinerary review services designed to help you build a Camino that fits your time, fitness level and travel style.

3. Online Camino Planning Workshops

Prefer to learn at your own pace, in your own time?

My labor of love is my online Camino Planning Workshops. They cover everything from choosing a route and packing your backpack to booking accommodation, daily life on the Camino and many of the questions and worries first-time pilgrims have before they leave home.

Whichever option you choose, my goal is simple: to help you start your Camino feeling prepared, confident and excited for the journey ahead.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Whenever you travel, you should have great travel and medical insurance.  None of us expect anything bad to happen, but in the event of an incident, you want to be sure that your insurance will cover you.

Iโ€™ve ended up in hospital in Peru, Indonesia, Portugal, Japan and Ireland. Every time my insurance took care of everything. I would never leave home without full and comprehensive insurance.

MondialCare : Due to increasing limitations, mainly due to age, we have recently switched to MondialCare for our travel insurance. We have taken an annual policy at a very reasonable cost that includes medical and other travel cover. There are no trip length limits and the upper age for cover is 84. For Camino walkers and travel in Europe they have a low cost Schengen policy with no age limit.

TrueTravellerย : We have used this policy and were very happy with the cover, especially considering our ages and pre-existing conditions.

Globelink: We have used and recommended Globelink for years and not heard of any issues. They are a great choice for European and UK Residents.

Genki : This is an EU based company offering long term policies for nomads and travellers. Their monthly rates are very competitive for longer trips too.

Colleen in Salamanca on the Via de la Plata

Hey I’m Colleen. Iโ€™m married to Gerry, we’ve three fabulous kids and been living in France for almost two decades. I fell in love with Spain in the 1980s and I’ve walked 1000s of miles along the Camino de Santiago. Now we’re exploring and walking the world and I can’t wait to share what we’ve learned!
